North East Masters Athletics Association (NEMAA) Inter-Area Indoor Track & Field Challenge 2024

This event took place at Lee Valley Stadium in Edmonton, London and as current North East Masters champion for M70 sprint and middles distance, I was asked to do as many races as I could.

Me being me, I had a go at all of them. But I knew I had to pace myself because I was the only competitor taking on both sprints and longer races.

I started with the 1500 (6:48 and 6th place), then 400m (1:26 and 2nd place) followed by the 60m (10:61, a new PB and QRC Club Record).

After lunch it was the 800m (3:28 and 6th place) and 200m (38:87 and 3rd place). I got talked into a 200m relay leg as well (2:02) before realising it was for the 50+ team and I found myself giving away 20 years to competitors on the final leg. We weren’t last and scored 5 points.

My points return for five individual races was 18.

My focus was on the 60m with the help of Quakers track coach, Paul Roberts, who also inspired my track running at the grand old age of 68.
