While a handful of runners headed up the road for the latest championship race, one Quaker was running from one side of the country to the other.
Emily Beaumont was one of just 28 runners to complete the GB Ultra Run, a 215 mile distance across Scotland from Portpatrick on the west coast to Cockburnspath on the east. On a route which followed the Southern Upland Way, she completed the gruelling event in the early hours of Wednesday morning after 92 hours 16 minutes.
Eleven runners travelled up to Auckland Castle for the 5 mile trail race being held in and around the grounds. Marc Ellis finished the undulating distance in third place overall in 34:45 followed by Dawn Richardson (38:49 and the first female finisher), Billy Harris (39:25), Rob Dent (41:23), Rob Gillham (46:06), Phil Clarke (49:18), Julie Russell (50:38), Ian Scott (53:57), Gillian Harris (59:35), Mark Blewitt (1:00:58) and Susan Rigg (1:15:51).
Over on the coast at Robin Hood’s Bay was the Smugglers Trod, a 25 mile circular route from the village. Annette Clarke, Charlie Bogg and Dave Thompson all finished together in 5 hours 56 minutes with Wendy Colling and Sandra Cass not far behind in 6 hours 27 minutes.

At Sedgefield, Lewis Boshier ran there in 26:20 along with Michelle Boshier (27:15) and Sally Watson (36:35) while at Leazes Park, Phil Rutter finished in 23:37 followed by David Ledgerwood (27:11) and Gill Colling (28:36). At Keswick, Tom and Claire Chapman ran there in 20:07 and 27:03 respectively, Rachel Grayson did the Druridge Bay run in 34:47, Barbra Barker finished at Whinlatter Forest in 36:12 and Phil Clarke did the Catterick run in 30:19. April Corbett completed the Herrington Country Park run in 25:45, Anthony Corbett ran at Marshall Drive in 25:30, Lisa Reeve did the Tees Barrage run in 28:35, Kathryn Plant ran at Stewart Park in 29:37 and Peter Rowley finished at Redcar in 26:20.
Further afield, Lee Morris did the Holkham run in 41:37, Rebecca Howard ran at Bedgebury Pinetum in 32:43, Julie Whinn did the Kingston run in 26:10, Stuart Hardcastle completed the Wepre run in 24:38, Peter Commane ran at Uckfield in 22:00, while Paul and Angela Taylor did the Ford run in 26:39 and 30:13 respectively.
