Quakers were spoilt for choice last week, with a variety of distances on offer, one of which saw a club record fall that had stood since the last millennium.

The half marathon up at Sunderland saw Paul Dalton complete the 13.1 miles around the city in 1:26:52 followed by Brian Mclaren (1:36:56), Daniel Orton (1:50:11), Andrew Dixon (1:51:41), Michael Johnston (1:55:51), Graham Park (1:55:58), Juliette Mclaren (2:00:47), Angela Clement (2:03:55), Barbra Barker (2:10:44) and Fiona Dixon (2:47:25). In the 10K event held at the same time, Paul Hutchinson finished in 57:43.

Five travelled to Leeds for the half marathon event taking place there. James Atkinson finished in 1:31:51 along with Michael Oliver (1:50:18), Janette Croft (2:15:52), Lucy Bendle (2:17:08) and Helen Spaven (2:24:59).

The latest championship race took place midweek over at Redcar, the Pie and Peas 5 mile run, which saw runners completing five one mile laps of Locke Park. Marc Ellis finished in fourth place overall in 28:56, and in doing so broke the club record for the distance which had stood since 1999. He was followed in by Rob Dent (31:21), Neil Gooding (32:38), Steve Snook (36:39), Rob Gillham (37:55), Bridget Stewart (44:10), Kelly Smith (47:13), Naomi Dixon (1:00:37) and Sharon Carr (1:00:38).

Some runners took advantage of the extra day off at the start of the week to run the 10K at Tees Barrage. Gareth Kyle completed the one lap route around the river in 44:53 along with Adrian Cottam (46:43), Ian Hart (56:32), Mike Watson (1:03:15), Hannah Alderson (1:03:25), Helen Clarke (1:03:43), Nicola Thompson (1:04:03), Kelly Smith (1:04:13) and Rachel Grayson (1:17:31).

The bank holiday also saw Phil Clarke running in the Milton Keynes marathon relay event, which comprised teams of four, covering the first leg of 6.2 miles in 1:11:46.

Down at the Ripon 10 mile race, held over a multi-terrain, undulating course, Wendy Colling came home in 1:36:34 followed by Robert Kirby (1:38:35), James Simpson (1:43:03), Janet Bowlby (1:44:56), Helen Whiting (1:50:54) and Claire Norman (1:52:01).

Also running the same distance, but up at Durham, was Anna Hardy, who completed the route which started in the city and headed along the river Wear in 1:49:20.

Alec Cinamon was the sole Quaker at the Daisy Dash 5K at Wynyard Hall, completing the race around the grounds in 41:36.

The previous week had seen the second round of the NYSD track and field over at Middlesbrough. In the 100m, Paul Roberts ran 14.67s with Lindsey Lester in 15.27, while in the 800m, Paul then clocked 2:44.54.

Last month had also seen Michael Joyeux representing the club at the North East 10,000m Championships up at Monkton Stadium, finishing the 25 laps around the track in fifth place in 33:13.

At Sedgefield, Dave Thompson finished in 23:20 along with Mark & Wendy Colling in 32:21, while at Catterick, Tom Chapman ran there in 22:23 followed by Phil Clarke (23:07) and Claire Chapman (25:19). David Ledgerwood did the Newcastle run in 24:12, Paul Dalton ran at Sunderland in 18:58 and Colin Smith finished at Hartlepool in 27:20. At Flatts Lane, Lucia Minto ran there in 25:21 along with Abbie Hull (27:14) and Emily Beaumont (32:00), while at Hackworth, Gareth Kyle and Mark Trowles finished in 21:42 and 25:27 respectively. Philippa Rayner did the Woodhouse Moor run at Leeds in 31:36, Malcolm & Carolyn Hewitson ran at the Sherwood Pines run near Mansfield in 24:40 and 37:49 respectively, while in London, David Stewart did the Bushy run in 31:34.
