While most Quakers headed down to Yorkshire on the party bus, three runners didn’t even need to leave town for their race.

A large contingent travelled down to Dewsbury for the 10K race there, where the fairly flat course enabled quite a few runners to set new personal bests. First home over the out and back route was Marc Ellis in 36:18 (PB and third in his age category), followed by Darren Wright (39:07, PB), Paul Dalton (40:58), David Todd (41:30), Michael Kipling (41:46), Louise Trainor (42:02), Steve Major (42:24), Chris Minto (42:43), Diane Vaughan (44:56), Graham Park (46:21), Ty Hankinson (46:44), Andrew Dixon (47:14, PB), Rob Gillham (47:15), Michael Oliver (47:21), Sue Woodcock (49:27), David Ledgerwood (50:15, PB), Michael Johnston (51:57), Julie Whinn (51:57 and breaking her own club record for her age category), Abigail Willson (52:17), Richard Hughes (52:24), Darren Alderson (53:22), Sue New (59:12), Lisa Reeve (59:13), Nicky Jordan (59:40), Lisa Jenkins (1:02:03), Michelle Dale (1:02:07), Michelle Scruby (1:04:03), Lisa Alderson (1:08:03, PB), Kay Bell (1:09:21) and Claire Dixon (1:09:28).

The North East Masters Cross Country event took place on our own doorstep, around the fields of Blackwell Meadows by the rugby club. In the women’s and over 65 men’s race, Danny Gordon covered the two-lap 3.5 mile distance in 34:26, while in the senior men’s race, held over a three-lap 5.2 mile course, Rob Dent finished in 38:01 just ahead of Michael Thompson in 38:29.

Also running off-road were the six who travelled to Ripon for the Muddy Boots 10K race. Tom Chapman completed the multi-terrain distance in 49:02 along with Viv Hardwick (57:13), Claire Chapman (57:25), Alison Hardwick (1:08:16), Fiona Dixon (1:21:21) and Karen Dove (1:21:21).

Gareth Kyle was the sole Quaker at the rearranged 10K race at Dalton Park, finishing the fairly flat distance around the park in 42:53.

Michelle Boshier and Emily Beaumont headed over to the Lake District for the Grizedale Marathon, taking place near Hawkshead. On a route taking place mostly along the forest tracks, they finished together in 6:03:45.

Meanwhile Anna Harris travelled down to Bolton Abbey for the half marathon event there, completing the distance held over a trail route in 2:19:55.

At Sedgefield, Adrian Colbourne finished in 21:14 along with Jeff Marriott (25:54), Sally Watson (33:07), Gemma Marshall (33:11), Olly Moore (33:12) and Karen Dove (34:49). At Catterick, Abbie Hull and Phil Clarke ran there in 26:20 and 29:00 respectively, Lucia Minto did the Tees Barrage run in 24:13, Stephen Moore completed the Albert Park run in 23:42, Anthony Corbett ran at Gateshead in 25:56, while down in King’s Lynn, Dave Murphy finished in 23:38.
