Billy and Gillian Harris soaking up the sun before their races in Lanzarote

Just a handful of races but plenty to celebrate in the first half of December…

3rd December: parkrun – Darlington South Park, Hamsterley Forest, Pole Mokotowskie, Warsaw

At Darlington South Park, Ed Griffiths achieved his 2nd PB this year and Bryan Dale knocked 10 seconds off his PB, finishing in 27:39. At Hamsterley Forest, Emily Beaumont was 4th lady to finish in 30:00. Meanwhile, David Porterfield and Diane Lockhart ran their 50th parkruns. David ran at Darlington South Park in 31:57 and Diane ran at Pole Mokotowskie, Warsaw in 29:38.

3rd December: Croft Circuit 5k

A flat and fast course that is ideal for all runners looking to enjoy a fun, and safe, environment with your friends and family. With the addition of the 2k (U13 and below), there really is something for all the family.

Michael Joyeux completed the race in 16:41 followed by Diane Vaughan (22:43 and 1st in age category).

3rd December: Lanzarote Marathon, Half marathon and 10k

The Lanzarote International Marathon takes place in December along a coastal strip on the island of Lanzarote, covering the towns of Costa Teguise, Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Puerto del Carmen.

Billy Harris completed the marathon distance, setting off from Costa Teguise, he finished in 3:28 and  2nd in age category. Gillian Harris completed the half marathon distance, setting off from Puerto del Carmen and completed the race in 2:06. Andrew Vernon and Sarah Watson completed the 10k route which started at the marina in Arrecife. Andrew finished in 00:47 and Sarah in 1:02. Andrew and Sarah’s little boy also ran and finished first in his race! (Quaker in the making)

4th December: Saturn Buddy’s Big Bobble Bimble (Herrington Park, Sunderland)

This is a 7hr Time Challenge event which allows you full control over the distance you want to run. The minimum distance is 5km, which is part of a full lap. A full lap is 3.28 mile course at this venue. Distances include 5km, 10km, half-marathon, marathon, 50km and Ultra distances, but you can choose how far you want to run on the day, meaning this is a great event if you are new to running or want a no-pressure event to achieve a personal goal. The aid table is always very well stocked and this year runners received a medal and a big bobble hat.

Helen Clark and Karen Dove completed the half marathon distance in 2:26 and 3:01 respectively.

4th December: St Teresa’s Santa Run

Starting at West Park Academy, this a family favourite festive fun run! There are various options including the Santa Sprint, Reindeer Run or Elf Amble, raising money for St Teresa’s Hospice.

Well done to all Quakers that took part.

4th December: Eskdale Eureka (Esk Valley Winter Fell series)

Starting at Castleton Cricket Club, this route offers 8.9 miles and 15342 feet of elevation across Westerdale Moor, Little Hograh Moor, Great Hograh Moor and Kildale Moor before returning back over Westerdale Moor to finish.

Abbie Hull completed the run in 1:34.

4th December: Summerhill Cross Country, Hartlepool

In the U17, U20, SENIOR & VET WOMEN race, competitors ran 1 large lap of 6.2km. Dawn Richardson finished in 4th pace and 1st in age category in 28:10, followed by Lou Trainor (31:41 and 3rd in age category).

In the U20, SENIOR & VET MEN race, competitors ran 2 large laps totalling 8.9km. Marc Ellis was home in 40:08 and 3rd in age category followed by Rob Dent (44:51), David Whittle (46:59), Michael Thompson (47:37) and David Todd (51:58).

In the OVER 65 VET MEN race, Brian Martin also ran 8.9km, finishing in 1st place in 29:03.

11th December: Hardmoors Roseberry Trail Marathon (30 miles) half Marathon (14.5 miles) and 10k (8.5 miles)

The routes cover very exposed areas. The Trail Marathon climbs to the highest part of the North York Moors and stays at this height for several miles. Wind chill and exposure to the elements at this time of year are very high! All routes are circular, starting from Guisborough, taking in the Tees Link and High Cliffe Nab and the half and marathon routes also include the Roseberry Topping summit and Captain Cook’s monument.

Rebecca and Dave Jones completed the full marathon route together in 9:17 whilst Hayley Addison completed the half marathon route in 3:36. Anna Harris completed the 10k in 1:48 and 3rd in age category.
