18th October: parkruns – Albert (Middlesbrough), Darlington South Park, Zielony Jar (Poland), Heritage Coastal Path, Easington and The Demesnes (Barnard Castle)
At Albert parkrun, Alex Looney achieved a new PB of 21:12, shaving another 3 seconds off her previous PB from December 2024 whilst at Darlington South Park, Marc Helias finished in 9th place overall and set a new age category club record in 18:38, Dawn Richardson was 1st female finisher in 21:25 and Lin Gossage set a new age category club record in 57:07.
Further afield, at Zielony Jar, Carys Samuel was 3rd female finisher in 23:59; Dave Whittle celebrated his 250th parkrun milestone in 27:37 at Heritage Coastal Path, Easington and at The Demesnes, Alex Mathers was 8th overall finisher in 20:05.
Juliette McLaren completed her 50th volunteer parkun milestone.
18th October: Punk Panther Dales Dazzler (14.4/20.7/34.4/51 miles)
This is a new event for 2025. Setting off from the beautiful market Town of Skipton, this new route takes runners West to meet the Pennine Way near Pinhaw Beacon, then continues to Thornton-in-Craven. Depending on the distance, the route then continues on the Pennine Way through Gargrave to Malham Tarn before heading over to Arncliffe and then joining the Dales Way at Starbotton. It continues on the Dales Way through Kettlewell, Grassington and Burnsall to Barden Bridge before heading back to Skipton via Embsay.
Karen Dove completed the Half Marathon in 3:57.
19th October: Amsterdam Marathon
The historic Amsterdam Marathon starts and finishes in the Olympic Stadium. The course follows a part of the Olympic route along the Amstel River, past stately homes, and a few windmills. This route offers beautiful rural scenery (including the Arena) and gives an impression of the vast amount of daily business on the Amstel.
David Ledgerwood completed the event in 5:01.
19th October: Yorkshire Marathon
The largely flat course takes a circular route through York city centre, starting from the University of York and continuing clockwise past York Minster and into Heworth. Runners then head out into the surrounding countryside, continuing through Stockton on the Forest and Stamford Bridge, before winding through the village of Murton and returning to finish back where the race started.
Ed Griffiths completed the event in 3:51 (PB) followed by Michael Thompson (4:38), Emma Joyeux (5:20) and Pip Burns (5.20 & PB).
19th October: Yorkshire 10 mile
The Yorkshire 10 mile is part of the Yorkshire Marathon Festival. The route starts and finishes at the University of York and follows the roads out of the city centre and out into the stunning Yorkshire countryside, returning back to the finish at the University.
Ian Hart completed the event in 1:18, 2nd in age category and club record, followed by David Nalder (1:29), Jo Neesam (1:39 and set PB), Peter Cowan (1:40) and Julie Russell (1:42).
19th October: Jarrow 10k
This is a fast and flat road closed event that starts and finished in Monkton Stadium.
John Yeomans completed the route in 58:20.
19th October: Yorkshire Coast 10k
Starting and finishing at the Scarborough SPA, runners enjoy the coastal route as they embark round South Bay, past the harbour, round the headland and into North Bay before running through the Open Air Theatre and back to the SPA.
Luke Hewitson completed the event in 48:28, setting his PB.
19th October: Wild Deer Four Reservoirs 25km (53km also available)
The 25km event was new for this year. Starting from Shotley Bridge, near Consett, it was carefully designed to showcase the very best of County Durham, with spectacular views, sweeping moorland, woodland trails, and of course… four reservoirs! The 25km event Follows the Ultra route until Rowley Station and Descends beside the A68 to Allensford Park before Rejoining the Ultra runners through Ebchester, Hamsterley and Derwent Walk.
Grainne Duffy completed the event in 3:10 and 3rd in age category, followed by Chris Bowe (3:22).
19th October: More than a Run Ormesby 10
This event usually takes places on the fourth Sunday of the month. The 10k circular route follows a scenic trail through farmland, woodland, and historic estate grounds, offering a mix of terrain including tarmac and gravel driveways, field margins and woodland trails. Trail shoes are recommended due to the varied surfaces and potential for mud. This run is ideal for trail enthusiasts looking for a regular, community-driven event with a scenic backdrop. Whether you’re training or just enjoying a Sunday run, the Ormesby10 offers a welcoming and well-organized experience.
Karen Dove completed the event in 1:25.
19th October: Traildog Beamish Museum
This unique 5k starts at the 1900s Pit Colliery and heads past Pockerley 1820s and out to the stunning woods surrounding the museum. After the woods, entrants (and their dogs) pass the 1950s street with hall, milk bar and cinema. From here, they run down the iconic 1900s cobbled street, past Rowley Station, through the Fairground and into the finish.
Emily Beaumont completed the event in 28:49 followed by Helen Clark in 29:09.
25th October: parkruns – Albert, Hamsterley Forest, Wynyard Woodland & Darlington South Park,
At Albert, Abbie Jones achieved a new PB of 21:17, shaving off another 14 seconds off her previous PB last month; at Hamsetrle6t Forest, Rebecca Howard finished in 5th place overall and was 1st female finisher in 24:04 whilst at Wynyard Woodland, Dave Jones was 10th finisher overall in 21:35.
Meanwhile, at Darlington South Park, Marc Ellis finished in 5th place overall in 18:09; Dawn Richardson was 2nd female finisher in 21:38 and Lin Gossage broke a new age club category record in 50:05.
26th October: Whixley 10K (10k League Race) 5K also available
This is a scenic multi-terrain race that takes runners through the charming village of Whixley and its surrounding countryside. The route combines quiet country lanes, farm tracks, and field paths, offering a varied and picturesque running experience.
Daniel McIntyre was 1st finisher, 1st in age category and also achieved a new PB of 40:18, followed by Rob Dent in 41:54 (5th place overall and 2nd in age category), Carys Samuel (47:40 and 3rd in age category), Ian Hart (47:51 and 1st in age category), Sue Sparrow (49:39 and 2nd in age category), Emily Beaumont (49:52 and 1st in age category), Phil Neal (50:50), April Corbett (53:47), Simon Metcalfe (53:49), Paul Cockburn (54:01), Chris Clark (55:49), Carmelita Coco (56:18), Helen Clark (57:58), Anthony Corbett (1:00), Lesley Neal (1:01), Darren Alderson (1:02), Sarah Burrows (1:03) and Paige Robson (1:04 PB).
29th October: Muddy Roads Halloween Run (5k)
Runners were advised to prepare for chills, thrills, and spine-tingling adventure and to head down to the haunted forest at Trimdon for an experience they’d never forget. Ghouls, ghosts, and things that go bump in the night await. Who knows who—or what—they might encounter.
Brian McLaren was first Quaker finisher and 2nd in age category in 27:37, followed by Juliette McLaren (31:20 and 1st in age category), Amy Storey (32:19 and 3rd in age category), Helen Clark (33:18 and 2nd in age category), Gill Colling (38:25), Sandra Cass (38:25), Wendy Colling (38:26), Julie Whinn (38:27) and Mark Colling (39:52).
30th October: QRC Halloween themed treasure hunt
Thank you to Welfare Officers, Diane and Brian, who organised a Run and Talk event with a spooky theme with help from volunteers. Members taking part started and finished at the Mowden Pub, covering a distance of approximately 5k. Dressing up was encouraged, with some fantastic outfits on show. Well done to everyone that took part and especially the winning team – Alex, Carmelita, Helen and Zoe.
Special mentions
Commiserations and condolences to Claire and Tom Chapman who completed yet another Lyke Wake crossing on 18th October – this was Claire’s 67th time and Tom’s 49th and included an additional 6 miles to avoid closures on the route.
