While most runners wore the usual black and white at the weekend, one runner got the chance to wear a vest of a different colour.
Up at Glasgow, Brian Martin represented England at the British & Irish Masters Cross County International, held at Tollcross Park. He completed the 8K race in 29:24, and as a result, was part of the team which secured a bronze medal for England in his age category.
The second of this year’s NYSD cross country races took place over at Fox Rush, Redcar, on a fairly different course to the one held the previous time at that venue. In the women’s race, which also included the over 65 men, and covered 6.3K over a two lap route, Dawn Richardson finished in fourth place overall in 25:16, followed by Louise Trainer (27:09), Lindsey Lister (30:46), Danny Gordon (33:32), Bev Snook (34:52), Sue New (34:53), Anna Hardy (34:55), Gill Colling (36:17), Michelle Dale (39:28), Amy Smith (39:33), Nicola Herraghty (40:35), Gillian Harris (40:45), Sharon Carr (47:21) and Lisa Alderson (47:32).
The men’s race covered 9.2K over a three lap course and saw Alex Kiel finishing in sixth place overall in 32:23, along with Marc Ellis (34:42), Darren Wright (39:40), Steve Snook (40:59), Phil Rutter (42:16), Billy Harris (43:35), Graham Park (44:28), David Whittle (46:50), Fred Tennent (48:07), Darren Alderson (48:58) and Paul Roberts (52:43).
There was a large turnout at the latest 10K league race up at Heaton, where the flat course meant several runners were able to set new personal bests on the day. First home for the club over the two-lap route around the Town Moor was Kyle Cook in 36:09 (PB), followed by Daniel Orton (40:07, PB), Steven Major (41:07, PB), Andrew Vernon (42:04), Rebecca Howard (44:18, PB), Diane Vaughan (45:28), Paul Pomfret (46:03), Gary Read (46:14), Ty Hankinson (47:53), Fred Tennant (48:12), Shaune Eland (48:51), Gavin Armstrong (49:26), Richard Hughes (49:46), Andrew Dixon (49:46, PB), Sue Woodcock (51:17), David Ledgerwood (52:19, PB), Helen Sullivan (52:20), Pamela Barrass (52:30), Jamie Pratt (52:45), Anna Hardy (52:53), Ian Young (53:28), Gemma Eddy (54:37, PB), Tracey Plaskitt (55:09), Michelle Boshier (55:14), Lewis Boshier (55:14), Steven Johnston (55:29), Andy Whittam (58:11, PB), Sarah Watson (58:30), Michelle Scruby (58:31, PB), Lucy Bendle (59:49), Lisa Johnstone (1:00:43) and Nichola Jordan (1:03:31).
In the Saturday morning parkruns, Dave Jones finished at South Park in 18:39 along with Andrew Vernon (20:31), Mike Brown (20:59), Diane Adkins (26:37), Mark Trowles (26:48), Lyn Hatch (27:02), Rebecca Bowes (27:02), Tracey Plaskitt (27:13), Wendy Noble (27:15), Sarah Watson (27:16), Brian Dixon (28:08), Sally Singleton (29:06), Olly Moore (29:38), Paul Ryan (30:23), Grainne Duffy (31:08), Kim Hall (32:14), Jan Waite (37:23), Sally Watson (38:19) and Adrian Dent (40:12).
At Sedgefield, Dave Thompson and Mark Blewitt completed the run in 23:07 and 27:58 respectively, Helen Whiting did the run at Stewart Park in 27:30, while Phil Clarke headed up to Whitley Bay, finishing there in 25:47.
