Four Quakers ran the rather quirky Town Moor Half Marathon. Initially, nobody could find the start. We eventually found a faint chalk line and lined up waiting for a starter. No-one appeared, so we set off after hearing the gun from the nearby full marathon. At times it was confusing with runners appearing from all directions. Marshalling errors resulted in most people running an extra quarter of a mile or more. Apart from that, it was a good race. The Martins had an excellent day with Brian winning the 50 points again and Sandra taking 48 to seal second place overall in this year’s ladies contest.
The next event was the Guy Fawkes 10, where we had our biggest turnout of the season for a Championship race. The rain stopped as the race began and there were some great performances from Quakers throughout the field. Marc Ellis came out on top, pipping Paul Dalton to a crucial 50 points by 12 seconds. Steve Snook took third place. The top lady was Lou Trainor, ahead of Katherine Hackett and Wendy Colling.
With just one race remaining, all eyes will be on the battle for the men’s third place spot. Paul Dalton currently has one hand on the trophy, but could still be caught by the tenacious Marc Ellis.
Good luck to all running at Ravenstonedale. Hopefully, it will be drier than last year.
