A rare weekend with no races at all in the region saw those in search of a run heading across the Pennines for one.

A very muddy Witton Park in Blackburn played host to the Northern Cross Country Championships, which saw over 1,000 runners from the North of England in attendance. In the women’s race, which covered 7.8K over three laps, Dawn Richardson finished in 36:28 along with Louise Trainor (40:23) and Katherine Hackett (41:52).

The men’s race was held over 12K and saw Michael Thompson finish first for the club over the four lap course in 1:04:59 followed by Mark Robinson (1:07:04), Nick Mason (1:08:56), Steven Snook (1:14:43), Paul Roberts (1:14:55), Graham Park (1:18:53) and David Ledgerwood (1:38:07).

In the Saturday morning parkruns, Peter Commane finished at South Park in 19:53 followed by Ewan Henderson (21:11), Richard Coulson (21:33), Phil Rutter (22:42), Michael Oliver (22:50), Rob Gillham (24:21), Marc Ellis (24:56), Billy Harris (25:06), Sue Woodcock (25:33), Julie Whinn (25:46), Dale Chapman (25:49), Gemma Marshall (25:55), Gary Read (26:22), Paul Rossington (26:28), Lee Morris (27:56), Lyn Hatch (28:05), Lisa Johnstone (28:29), Paul Ryan (29:21), Sally Singleton (29:40), Alec Cinamon (30:08), Michael King (30:33), Michelle Scruby (30:34), Gill Colling (30:41), Paul Hutchinson (31:21), Phil Clarke (31:23), Lucy Bendle (31:26), Nigel Walker (34:21), Sarah Bayles (34:41) and Adrian Dent (40:08).

At Sedgefield Dave Thompson completed the run in 24:11 along with Mark Blewitt (27:23), Sarah Wilson (28:41), Diane Adkins (33:26), Siobhan Waddell (33:43) and Louise Mccann (33:48), while over at Redcar, Paul Dalton was first across the line there in 17:59.
