A packed weekend of races saw Quakers spoilt for choice, with four to choose from and all down in North Yorkshire.
In the first of this month’s double header of marathons, ten runners headed to York to complete the 26.2 mile distance, including some attempting one for the very first time. The fairly flat course also enabled several runners to break their personal bests as well. First home for the club was Gary Read in 3:47:00 (PB) followed by April Corbett (3:50:37, PB), Bridget Stewart (3:50:51), Neil Harrington (3:51:47), Sarah Watson (3:58:39), Marc Ellis (3:59:09), Phil Clarke (4:00:59), Anthony Corbett (4:11:43), Gavin Armstrong (4:21:41, PB) and Clare Stradling (4:26:09, PB).
Also taking place at the same venue was the Yorkshire 10 mile race where Paul Dalton finished sixth overall in 58:23, along with Richard Hughes (1:16:18), Peter Dods (1:16:18), Diane Vaughan (1:18:22) and Joanne Dewar (1:33:52).
Those fancying something on the short side headed to different ends of the county for a 10K race. The latest league and championship race took place at Richmond Castle. Brian Martin was first to finish the very undulating route in 40:17 (and first in his age category) followed by David Todd (43:36), Katherine Hackett (44:12 and first in her age category), Darren Wright (44:59), Steve Snook (46:14), Phil Rutter (46:21), Andy Stephenson (47:04), Adrian Gooding (47:22), Stephen Moore (48:22), Michael Oliver (48:38), Andrew Walker (48:51), Iain Clyde (52:33), Lindsey Lester (52:46), Rebecca Bowes (53:00), Danny Gordon (55:21), Richard Payne (56:06), Julie Whinn (56:43), Janet Bowlby (57:00), Ian Young (57:11), Jamie Burn (57:32), Pamela Barrass (57:58), Sally Singleton (59:07), Clare Westwood (59:48), Lewis Boshier (59:52), Michelle Boshier (59:58), Alec Cinamon (1:00:36), Kevin Simpson (1:02:33), James Simpson (1:12:55) and Fiona Dixon (1:12:59).
Meanwhile two headed over to the seaside for the Scarborough 10K, where Richard Horniman and Michael King completed the out and back route along the coast in 51:53 and 1:08:15 respectively.
In the Saturday morning parkruns, Dale Chapman finished at South Park in 19:38, followed by David Todd (21:07), David Whittle (21:50), Peter Commane (22:17), Iain Clyde (22:53), Ty Hankinson (22:54), Fin Fox (24:00), Peter Rowley (24:42), Gemma Marshall (25:29), Gavin Armstrong (25:57), Paul Ryan (27:39), Lee Morris (27:43), Terri Deighton (28:27), Mark Trowles (29:22), Duncan O’neil (30:22), Gary Read (32:14), Michael King (33:57), Jan Waite (34:40), Lucy Bendle (36:28) and Matthew Hall (36:40).
At Sedgefield, Sandra Cass completed the run in 25:14 along with Mark Colling and Diane Adkins (33:05), while at Albert Park Stephen Moore and Michelle Scruby ran there in 23:12 and 28:59 respectively. Alan Prest did the run at Durham in 31:52 while Paul Roberts completed the run at Wetherby in 22:01.
Neil Harrington seems to be clearly enjoying his first ever marathon by the looks of it!
