The first of the spring marathons took place at the weekend, with two Quakers making the trip west for the Manchester Marathon. Peter Commane set a new PB in completing the fairly flat course in 3:05:18, while Rob Dent finished in 3:52:18.
Two runners travelled varying distances for their half marathons on Sunday. In Sheffield, where the race was cancelled at the last minute, several thousand runners still ran the distance anyway, including Steven Moore, who finished in what would otherwise have been a PB of 1:29:33. Further afield, over on the continent, Marta Rybarczyk completed the Poznan Half Marathon in Poland in 1:44:56.
Closer to home at the Blyth Valley 10km race, Rob Gillham finished in 43:01 (PB) along with Alan Prest in 1:05:44.
Several Quakers also ventured off road at the weekend. Annette Clarke, Charlie Bogg and Dave Thompson all took part in the 25th running of the Allendale Challenge. In some extremely muddy conditions, the three all finished the 25 mile route together in 5 hours 51 minutes.
At the Hardmoors Wainstones Trail Events, a variety of distances were on offer to those who took part. Roy McDougall was the sole Quaker to attempt the marathon distance finishing in 6:39:48, while April Corbett, Sandra Cass, Nicola Howe all completed the half marathon distance together in 3:16:48. In the 10km race (which turned out to be just over 8 miles) Mark Colling and Diane Adkins finished in 1:53:06 and 2:07:02 respectively.
In the Saturday morning Parkruns Michael Joyeux and Paul Dalton led a 1-2 finish at South Park in 16:34 and 17:20 respectively. Also running were Dale Chapman (20:27), David Mclachlan (20:50), Ewan Henderson (22:13), Peter Rowley (22:30), Lucy Jefferies (22:35), Zoe Rothery (24:05), Jessica Campbell (24:56), Danny Gordon (25:05), Nigel Walker (26:51), David Hood (26:55), Emma Whitworth (27:11), Matt Jackson (27:55), Sally Singleton (29:07), Michael King (30:24), Gillian Harris (30:28), Sandra Martin (30:28), Rob Gillham (31:52), Darryn Wood (34:09) and Ian Bond (40:01).
Elsewhere in the region, Paul Roberts completed the Sedgefield course in 21:40, followed by Abbie Hull (24:26), April Corbett (24:41), Jeff Marriott (25:23) and Jill Wallis (41:29). Mark Colling and Anthony Corbett ran at Tees Barrage in 24:49 and 26:41 respectively, Colin Wild finished third overall at Hackworth in 20:10, while Steven Moore ran 19:46 at Albert Park. Meanwhile across the water, Grainne Duffy completed the Parkrun at Lisburn, Northern Ireland in 31:30.
