With it being the last weekend before Christmas, it could only mean one thing was happening – Quakers running for turkeys!
At the Loftus Poultry Run (the name a giveaway as to some of the prizes on offer), Colin Wild was first home over the undulating 8 mile course in 56:23 followed by Stephen Moore (59:47), Andrew Walker (1:03:16), Peter Dods (1:03:45), Louise Trainor (1:04:44), Michael Oliver (1:05:33), James Simpson (1:10:20), Michelle Boshier (1:13:29) and Matt Jackson (1:16:02).
The usual trio were up on the hills for the final time this year, on this occasion for the Tour de Helvellyn, a 39 mile route around the mountain. With Charlie Bogg unfortunately having to pull out midway, it was left to Dave Thompson and Annette Clarke to make it round, finishing together in 9 hours 46 minutes.
The previous week had seen the final 2014 race of the Hardmoors 26.2 Trail Series, this one being held at Roseberry Topping. In the marathon distance, Wendy Colling, Anthony Corbett and Sandra Cass all finished together in 7:12:20, with Emily Beaumont just behind in 7:23:30. Over the 10K distance, Mark Colling completed the course in 1:48:03 along with Gill Colling (2:08:38) and Diane Adkins (2:08:40)
In the Saturday morning parkruns, Michael Joyeux finished the second anniversary running of the South Park run in 17:10, followed by Paul Dalton (17:21), Marc Ellis (18:03), Nick Mason (19:09), Ewan Henderson (20:52), Phil Clarke (21:25), David Mclachlan (21:27), Ty Hankinson (21:42), Chris Minto (21:57), Zoe Rothery (21:59), David Whittle (22:21), Rob Gillham (22:53), Steve Mcallister (22:57), Peter Rowley (23:25), Gavin Armstrong (23:31), Paul Appleton (24:26), Lesley Miller (24:30), James Simpson (24:35, PB), Julien Deckard (25:26), John Brant (25:52), Dale Chapman (25:53), Phill Hall (26:12), Andrew Vernon (27:00), Jeanette Appleton (27:01), Gary Read (28:39), Sally Singleton (29:02), Lee Morris (29:05), Paula Roberts (29:14), Lewis Boshier (29:19), Michelle Boshier (29:21), Michael King (30:18), Juelz Lee-Deckard (30:53), Diane Adkins (32:23), Adrian Dent (38:19) and Darryn Wood (40:38).
At Sedgefield, Paul Roberts completed the run there in 21:55, along with April Corbett (27:56), Sandra Cass (27:56) and Anthony Corbett (27:57) while Stephen Moore ran at Albert Park in 20:59.
Down in London, Mark and Wendy Colling completed the Burgess parkrun in 24:59 and 25:11 respectively, while overseas, Lucy Bendle did the run in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 32:16.
Having already been stripped of his Santa hat by it, the wind threatens to remove what’s left of James Simpson’s festive outfit at a blustery Poultry Run!
