The latest round of cross country events took place last weekend, with Newcastle playing host to the biggest one so far this season.

The North Eastern Championship race took place on a very cold and windy Town Moor. In the women’s race which took place over two laps of the undulating 4K course, Rebecca Howard finished in 43:50, along with Lesley Miller (43:56) and Abbie Hull (45:40).

In the men’s distance which covered three laps of the 4K course, Michael Joyeux finished in 44:36, followed by Andrew Vernon (51:05), Mark Robinson (53:38), Matt Capsey (54:56), Steven Snook (55:42), Mark Tallon (55:47), Darren Stockdale (58:01), Graham Park (59:31), Gary Read (1:00:59), Paul Roberts (1:02:42) and David Aiken (1:05:25).

The third race of the Stockton Winter 5K series took place at the weekend, this time at Preston Park, where turnout was no doubt boosted by the promise of a selection box for each finisher. Katherine Hackett completed the course in 22:06 along with Louise Trainor (22:32), Phil Rutter (22:56), David Aiken (23:12), Paul Roberts (23:21), David Todd (25:32), Gary Read (25:41), Danny Gordon (26:10), Rebecca Howard (26:25) and Matt Jackson (28:40).

In the Saturday morning parkruns, Marc Ellis finished at South Park in 18:02, followed by Nick Wadd (20:31), Phil Clarke (20:52), Rob Gillham (21:38), David Todd (22:00), Zoe Rothery (22:00), Steve Mcallister (22:54), Peter Rowley (23:24), Mark Blewitt (24:38), Paul Appleton (24:45), Gavin Armstrong (25:39), Helen Brown (26:17), Jeanette Appleton (26:58), Gary Read (27:37), Rebecca Bowes (27:43), Glyn Casswell (29:44), Michael King (29:54), Hazel Commane (35:20) and Adrian Dent (38:04).

Stephen Moore ran at Albert Park in 20:48, Anthony Corbett did the Durham run in 29:22 while Jill Wallis and Dave Thompson both completed the Sedgefield run.
