It was eastward bound at the weekend as Quakers headed to the coast, for races which varied in both distance and terrain.

Four headed up to Northumberland for the Castles Marathon, which started in Alnwick and finished in Bamburgh. April Corbett finished the 26.2 mile route in 4:13:32 (a PB for the second time in three weeks), followed by Wendy Colling in 4:20:34 with Nicola Howe & Sandra Cass both finishing together in 4:50:04.

The third event of the NYSD cross country took place at a very windy Filey, where had it been any gustier, runners may well have found themselves being blown over the cliff edge. In the women’s race, which also included the under 17 boys, Ewan Henderson finished the approximately 5K course in 20:59, along with Sarah Watson (25:35), Bev Snook (26:48), Sue New (27:02), Hannah Robinson (29:10), Gill Colling (29:34), Gemma Marshall (31:12) and Gillian Harris (31:22).

Over in Redcar at the Locke Park 10 mile race, which comprised 10 one mile laps of the park, Nick Mason and Louise Trainor both survived going round in circles to finish in 1:05:06 and 1:13:24 respectively.

Meanwhile down in Nottinghamshire, Paul Roberts completed a hilly Worksop half marathon in 1:40:42.

In Northumberland, Abbie Hull was on the fells again, for the two-day “Original Mountain Marathon” finishing the course in a combined time of 8 hours 31 minutes.

An honourable mention must go to the night owls who took part in the Chop Gate Chiller Night Race. Those who completed the 9.7 mile course included James Simpson, Anthony Corbett, Michelle Boshier, Mark Robinson, Roy MacDougall, Matt Capsey and Paul Keedy (who only managed to fall over the four times!).
