About the Club

The club's main training base is at Queen Elizabeth 6th Form College Playing Fields, Abbey Road, Darlington, DL3 8LR. We train on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings (meeting at the school at 6:30pm). Formed in May 1995 with a membership of just six. The club was formed to promote the participation of all disciplines of athletics and has quickly established itself as one of the regions more active promoters of running events.

At present the club boasts a coaching staff of twenty qualified coaches specialising in a wide range of disciplines from sprints to ultra distance running, including field events, as well as more diverse disciplines such as fell running, strength & conditioning and orienteering. We cater for all types of runners and boast a varied membership, accomodating for all ability ranges. No one is ever left behind! We consider ourselves to be the most friendly and active running club in the area.

Events

Events are chosen to cover the range of distances and disciplines (road, fell and trail).  Long distance walks may also be used, as traditionally some entrants run them and they are a good source of longer off-road events.  Championship events are not special or different from any other events you do.  Just enter and do them as normal.  Our club statistician will find the results and will process them for the championship.

Adjustment Factors

The World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA) publishes factors relating to a person's age and sex.  The idea is that use of these factors allows a comparison to be made between the two sexes and different ages.  Hence women and veteran men can be compared with senior men.  The factors also vary with distance with less allowance being given at longer distances.

Adjusted Time

The runner's actual time is multiplied by the adjustment factor to give the adjusted time.  Here are some examples for a 10k event.

ManAge45Actual Time45:25
 Factor0.9332Adjusted Time45:25 x 0.9332 = 42:23

FemaleAge45Actual Time45:25
 Factor0.9192Adjusted Time45:25 x 0.9192 = 41:45

FemaleAge55Actual Time45:25
 Factor0.8381Adjusted Time45:25 x 0.8381 = 38:04

Points

How points are obtained is very simple.  50 points are awarded to the runner with the fastest adjusted time, 49 to the next etc.  Championship points updates will be sent out by e-mail where possible and also hopefully available at training sessions in the race folder. They will also be on the website.

Groups

For the 2011 championship, there will be 28 chosen events over 3 groups. The groups are organised by distance to encourage runners to try a range of distances and disciplines. Overall a maximum of 12 races could count.

  • Group 1 is distances up to 5 miles.
  • Group 2 is over 5miles and under 10 miles.
  • Group 3 is distances from 10 miles upwards.

This year we will be trying something slightly different. As mentioned above points from a maximum of 12 races will count as the runners total. The only stipulation will be that the maximum 12 races to count will include a minimum of one race from each group. Therefore if you do 12 races or more from the selection of championship races, then the highest score from each group will count plus the next nine highest scores.

A few dates are still to be confirmed but the expected date is shown for these.

And Finally

It’s all about enjoyment and increasing participation both individually and as a club. Give the chosen events a go and have some fun ! Last year we showed a great presence at almost all events in the championship and really raised the club profile – well done ! We've certainly put the Quakers Running Club out there to be noticed in a significant number of events.
