Yet another first class event by the LDWA this time by the Yorkshire Coast group.

Starting and finishing in Robin Hoods Bay a 26 or 16 miles route around the delights of the North Yorkshire Moors.

We should have had some idea of the conditions as a snorkel and wetsuit had been added to the essential gear to be carried by all the entries.

Six Quakers tackled the 26 miler one sensible Quaker who had forgoten their scuba gear opted for the 16 mile version.
Trying to keep your feet dry had long gone by the three mile mark and by five miles the leading lady risked disqualification by swimming at least 10 yards along a flooded track.

As ever with these events the checkpoints were numerous and had a large menu of goodies to keep everyone well fueled.
Several of the checkpoint staff  also entered into the spirit of the event and dressed  in all manner of  piratical gear and had the jolly roger flying. In keeping with the tradition of the LDWA the best was saved to the last.Having overcome all the the moors had to throw at us the last checkpoint was at the dock at the bottom of Robin Hoods Bay.The finish being at the top of the 1 in 3 bank avoiding on a bank holiday weekend,in no particular order, five abreast grannies, serial fish and chip eaters, kids on scooters, various dipsticks who think they own the place and god bless them numerous kids who point and ask mummy what is that strange man is doing.

Never did pie and peas and a cup of tea at the finish taste so good. All this for the princely sum of £8.
