The penultimate race in the Quakers’ club championship saw 9 Quakers on the start line of the Ravenstonedale 10k over in Cumbria. Against the backdrop of the Howgills, Dawn Richardson crossed the finish line first for the Quakers in an impressive 41:25 which earned her a prize for second female overall in the race. Nick Wadd was second Quaker home in 41:55 followed by Andrew Knox in 42:23. Steve Snook, despite carrying a calf injury, finished in 44:26 while Danny Gordon took 3rd place in the vet male 60 category with a finish time of 50:10. Little separated Wendy Colling and Anthony Corbett who completed the undulating course in 51:48 and 51:55 respectively. Bev Snook (53:19) also won second prize in her age category and in the process boosted her club championship status. Alan Prest put in another good performance for the Quakers completing the course in 64:50.

Sunday’s wintery weather didn’t deter the 16 Quakers who lined up for the fourth fixture in the NYSD cross country fixture at Croft Circuit on Sunday. Lucy Jefferies was on good form again over the 3.7 mile course, crossing the finish line first for the Quakers’ women in 28:08, well ahead of Julie Jefferies (32:55), Bev Snook (34:02), Diane Adkins (39:45) and Gill Wallis (44:32). Sean McIntyre enjoyed a cross country win for the Quakers’ men, clocking up 35:51 for the 4.9 mile course. Dave Todd also had a good run to finish in 37:20, just ahead of Lee Coles (37:26), Dave McLachlan (37:47) and Ian Scott (37:55). Very little also separated the next 3 Quakers: Peter Smith (38:08), Eddie Griffiths (38:15) and Dave Whittle (38:19). Graham Park put in his usual solid performance finishing in 39:23, with Danny Gordon and Daniel Crane following in 43:18 and 49:27 respectively.

Over in the North York Moors, Andrew Lambe and Abbie Hull were in action in the Eskdale Eureka, one of a number of races in the NEHRA winter series 2010-2011. Lambe completed the tough 8 mile course with its 1200 feet of ascent in 88:11 with Hull finishing in a respectable 94:20.

Quakers’ endurance runner, Dave Thompson, has been at it again, this time flying the flag for the Quakers in the Rudolph Romp, a 24 miler in the Yorkshire Wolds. Despite its innocuous sounding name, the race was anything but a romp, traversing woodland, hill and dale, the only consolation being sweeping views of the Vale of York and River Humber. Nevertheless, Thompson was up to the challenge and completed the course in a good four 4 hrs: 30mins.
