Brian Martin joined Wayne Bramley at the top of the Club Championship after winning the final event of the season in dramatic style at Ripon.  In treacherously icy conditions, Martin blasted around the Jolly Holly Jog course in 44:21 to take 23rd place overall and grab the maximum points to become joint champion.  It was a fitting end to an exciting year, which saw Bramley excelling on the roads and Martin outshining him at the off-road events.  Both finished on 546 points, from a possible 550 with Steve Snook just four points behind, in third place.  Dave Whittle had one of his best runs of the year, finishing the 10k race in 44:45 to claim 25th place and 49 points.  He was followed by Wayne Bramley (45th, 46:56), Steve Snook (47th, 47:14), David Todd (51st, 47:22), Billy Harris (65th, 48:17), Simon Wakelin (93rd, 50:54), Andrew Lambe (119th, 52:57) and Danny Gordon (149th, 55:34).  The first Quaker lady was Wendy Colling (224th, 61:44) who finished the series as the second-placed female, behind Dawn Richardson.  Next was John Whinn (260th, 64:00) ahead of Anthony Corbett (270th, 64:56), Paul Howell (275th, 65:09), Julie Whinn (280th, 65:42), Michelle Boshier (297th, 67:00), Sandra Park (298th, 67:14), Gillian Harris (305th, 67:31), Sally Singleton (321st, 68:19), Bev Snook (323rd, 68:27), Julie Jefferies (340th, 69:56), Diane Gardner (342nd, 69:58), Carol Penney (349th, 71:04), Diane Adkins (374th, 1:13:11), Sue Woodcock (384th, 74:16), Sally Eddie (385th, 1:14:19), Susan Limbert (405th, 1:20:20) and Sue Boyle (433rd, 1:32:28).

The weather also affected the Guisborough Woods hill race, which was an exceptionally slushy state of affairs.  Andrew Knox was the first of three Quakers; coming 48th from 113 finishers, with a time of 52:31.  David Todd finished 61st in 55:17 and Andrew Lambe took 75th place in 57:07.

Thanks to David Aspen for the Guisborough photograph.

Quakers meet at Carmel School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm.
