Ever fancied doing a regular, measured, 5km run to see how your training is progressing ? Parkrun is a series of free friendly 5km runs around the country and our nearest is at Albert Park in Middlesbrough. It is held every Saturday at 9am and attracts around 200 runners. You only need to register once on-line prior to your first run and after that you can turn up any week without any further registration. It is a good running surface, all tarmac, and attracts people of all abilities - 17 minutes to over 40 minutes is the average spread of finishing times. There are toilets, plenty of car parking space outside the park and a cafe for afterwards !

For further information - and to register - check out the website www.parkrun.com and click on  Middlesbrough.

The 2011 10k Leagues PDF Print E-mail

10K leagues 2011

At the Club AGM 2008 a discussion point was raised about the turnover of newer members, several ideas were put forward, we wanted something that would complement the Club Championship and hopefully encourage the newer members to stay and compete .

I stole the idea for the 10k league directly from my previous club, were a local 10ks were used as the club championship. My original idea was to have 5k leagues as the idea is encourage newer members to compete, but at the time the Tees Forest race series had been cancelled which left very few races,

So I decided to use 10k as this is statistically the most popular race distance in the UK

The new leagues for 2011 have been sent out to your email addresses by Wayne. There are 11 leagues of 9 and 2 leagues of 8 they are based on your best time from last years leagues, for new members and anyone who did not race last year you will be placed in a league once you have taken part in a league race. So the number runners in the leagues will vary by the end of the year.

Scoring

The first race is the Blyth 10k (Sun 3rd April) a race list is attached but some are to be confirmed.

The points system is changing for this season if there are 9 runners in your league then 9pts will be awarded to the first runner and reducing by 1pt for each place, hopefully this will make the leagues tighter.

10 races out of 18 will score, if you run more than 10 races the best 10 results will score. In the event of a draw at the end of the season then the winner will decided by their performance against each other, if this is the same then the league will declared a tie.

There will be a joker this year; you can nominate 1 race which will double your points for that race. Notification of playing a joker must made by the day prior to the race you are playing your Joker (you cannot play your joker on the day of the race)

You can email me This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If you do not nominate a race for your joker by the end of season then the last race you run will be counted for your joker, if the number of runners in your league changes over the season, the joker score will be adjusted accordingly.

All the races chosen are local races, and some are boring, but if we don’t support them then they will be gone forever

Thanks

Jeff

Second place, grabbing the position as a result of running the last event of the year, with 585 points - Mr Steven Snook !

Third place a further 3 points behind, despite having a huge problem trying to beat the age handicapping system, Mr Michael Joyeux !

Top female performer with 532 points and 6th overall was Miss Louise Trainor !!

Second female with 460 points and 7th overall was Mrs Beverley Snook !

Third female with 401 points and 10th overall was Mrs Wendy Colling !
