Events
Events are chosen to cover the range of distances and
disciplines (road, fell and trail). Long distance walks
may also be used, as traditionally some entrants run them and
they are a good source of longer off-road events.
Championship events are not special or different from any other
events you do. Just enter and do them as normal.
Our club statistician will find the results and will process
them for the championship.
Adjustment Factors
The World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA) publishes
factors relating to a person's age and sex. The idea is
that use of these factors allows a comparison to be made
between the two sexes and different ages. Hence women and
veteran men can be compared with senior men. The factors
also vary with distance with less allowance being given at
longer distances.
Adjusted Time
The runner's actual time is multiplied by the adjustment
factor to give the adjusted time. Here are some examples
for a 10k event.

Points
How points are obtained is very simple. 50 points are
awarded to the runner with the fastest adjusted time, 49 to the
next etc. Championship points updates will be sent out by
e-mail where possible and also available at training sessions
in the race folder. Hopefully they will also be on the
website.
Groups
For the 2008 championship, there are 28 chosen events over 3 groups. The groups are organised by distance and to encourage runners to try a range of distances and disciplines there is a maximum number of events in each group to count. Overall a maximum of 10 races can count.
- Group 1 is distances up to 5 miles best 3 from 8 available to count.
- Group 2 is over 5miles and under 10 miles the most popular group and so the best 4 from 12 available to count.
- Group 3 is distances from 10 miles upwards best 3 from 8 available to count.
Therefore somebody not wishing to run too long a distance can still get 7 counters out of the first 2 groups.
And Finally
Its all about enjoyment and increasing participation both individually and as a club. Give the chosen events a go and have some fun ! Last year we showed a much greater presence at almost all events in the championship and really raised the club profile well done !
